Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica Announces Plans for a New Headquarters that Will Allow it to Better Serve Children and Staff

The organization plans to sell its Lincoln Boulevard property as part of that transition to move to a more convenient location for families

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica (SMBGC), a nonprofit organization that provides a safe, supportive, fun and enriching environment for more than 2,200 kids and teens annually at a variety of locations, today announced plans to build a new facility in Santa Monica that better meets its needs to serve kids in the community, as well as the staff who serve them. SMBGC will sell the land parcels on Lincoln Boulevard that currently house a club and its administrative offices.

SMBGC carefully considered a number of options for the facility over the past four years, including renovation, demolition and reconstruction. Ultimately, in-depth analysis and consultation with experts resulted in the decision that relocating to a new facility was the best course of action for the organization, staff and community.

“This has been a deliberative process, and at the heart of every decision is our ability to care for our kids and teens in both the short- and long-term,” said Brynja Seagren, CEO of SMBGC. “We will begin the process of scaling down our operations on Lincoln Boulevard starting in 2024, and we have spent extensive time evaluating how to ensure kids have access to our services during the transition.”

As part of the transition, elementary-aged students have shifted attendance to their Santa Monica elementary schools where SMBGC has after-school programs (Playground Club) at the campus they attend instead of being transported for services to the club at Lincoln Boulevard. SMBGC is committed to ensuring access and opportunity for kids, and scholarships are readily available for families impacted by this change. SMBGC’s Playground Club encourages students in grades 1-5 to enjoy physical activities that foster development and growth while also having the opportunity to complete homework in a safe, comfortable environment.

“For 80 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica has, at numerous locations, offered a safe, supportive, fun and enriching environment that inspires and empowers kids,” said Lisa Alexander, president of the board of directors. “This decision to build a new facility in Santa Monica that better meets the needs of a 21st century organization will help position us to achieve our mission for the next 80 years.”
