67TH ANNUAL BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF SANTA MONICA BIDDY BASKETBALL LEAGUE PROMOTES SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND SPORTSMANSHIP
Young athletes grow on and off the court through this well-rounded sports league.
Santa Monica, Calif., – Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica (SMBGC) is thrilled to announce the kickoff of the 67th annual Biddy Basketball League. This highly anticipated youth basketball league is open to all Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) students in grades 2 – 5. The league will offer a fun and impactful blend of skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a supportive and inclusive environment.
This year, Biddy Basketball will feature teams from seven SMMUSD elementary schools: Roosevelt, Franklin, McKinley, Edison, Grant, Will Rogers, and SMASH, as well as teams from the Saint Anne School Club and Jack & Cindy Jones Youth Center at Mar Vista Gardens Club. Practices will be conducted at each respective school, making it convenient for athletes and their families.
The core philosophy of the Biddy Basketball League goes beyond dribbling and shooting hoops. The dedicated coaches involved in this program are passionate about instilling life skills in young athletes. Coach Angel who works with the SMASH team said he, “believes in teaching every child not only the FUN-damentals of the game but also teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.” He also shared that coaches emphasize individual skill development to help each player reach their full potential.
All Biddy Basketball League games will take place at Main Branch Boys & Girls Club, located at 1238 Lincoln Blvd. This central venue provides a safe and exciting space for kids to showcase their newly acquired basketball skills.
“We are excited to get the season started and see these young athletes grow both on and off the court,” said Brandon LaBrie, Sports & Recreation Manager at Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica. “Our coaches are highly trained and committed to providing a positive and enriching experience for all participants.”
Registration for Biddy Basketball is now open and can be completed at www.smbgc.org/sports. Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign up early to secure a spot in this beloved community program. Registration ends on December 29, 2024.
