Sports are a powerful avenue for youth development for kids helping them learn to lead, grow as individuals, and prepare for their big futures. We’re registering for our middle school sports academies, and have a special announcement about our basketball program! Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica is partnering with two-time NBA All-Star and Santa Monica native, Baron Davis, and his company, UWish Academy, to facilitate the program. This fall, Davis also joins our Board of Governors!

Our reimagined basketball academy blends sports skills with personal finance education, mindfulness, and career exploration—all to support holistic growth for our middle schoolers. We see sports as an opportunity for kids to learn and grow as people, not just athletes, and we’re so excited to collaborate with Davis’ team to increase the impact of our basketball program.

You can sign your middle schoolers up today!

“I’m excited about what this program will offer the kids. This was my first basketball camp – having grown up participating in it myself, playing basketball here as a child, I know firsthand its impact. We’re thrilled to expand the program here in Santa Monica, not just to connect with the youth through sports but also to teach them financial literacy in a modern, engaging way. I founded UWish to create a fun way to teach kids and teens about achieving goals and wishes, while also teaching them about money. It’s a rewards platform dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment that empowers every child in their financial future.” – Baron Davis

Our first session begins on September 24 and runs through November 23. The academy is open to all kids in grades 6 – 8! Visit www.smbgc.org/sports to learn more and sign up.

We are very grateful for Davis’ support of this program. The entrepreneur, investor, and two-time NBA All-Star grew up here in Santa Monica and is passionate about creating avenues for young people—especially athletes—to succeed. He has been a longtime supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs.

Over his thirteen-year NBA career, dAVIS played for the Charlotte Hornets, the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the New York Knicks. Known for his electrifying style on the court, Davis was a powerful point guard, who won national acclaim for executing in crucial, high-pressure moments, when his team needed him the most.

Davis is also the founder of several companies, including Sports and Lifestyle in Culture (SLIC), The Black Santa Company, BIG and No Label. He has served as producer of several acclaimed documentaries including Crips and Bloods: Made In America, 30 for 30: Sole Man, and The Drew: No Excuse, Just Produce.
